Pleasanton school board proposes $11 million bond for school expansion
PLEASANTON, Neb. — A Central Nebraska school district is seeking a school bond to expand its facility and address its growing enrollment.
The Pleasanton Board of Education announced Thursday that it will host a special mail-in election for an $11 million school bond. The bond is meant to help the district accommodate hosting more students. Board president Seth Kucera says the district’s enrollment has grown from 264 to 331 students over the past decade and is projected to swell to 353 students within the next five years.
“This project is essential to accommodate our growing student body and provide them with the best possible learning environment," Kucera said.
The proposed project includes eight new high school classrooms and six new elementary classrooms, expanded spaces for career, technical and ag education programs, a new media center in place of the current courtyard, a secure entrance and expanded parking.
“Research consistently demonstrates the positive impact of smaller class sizes on student learning,” superintendent Nathan Lightle said. “Whether a student requires additional challenges or extra support, this personalized approach boosts academic performance and builds confidence.”
Ballots will be mailed in late February to registered voters in the Pleasanton school district. They are due by March 11 at 5:00 p.m.
The district is hosting two community meetings to discuss the bond.
