NORFOLK, Neb. -- A northeast Nebraska newspaper editor is in critical condition after a crash north of Norfolk.

It happened just before 12:30 p.m. on Thursday near Highway 81 and North East Industrial Highway. The Madison County Sheriff’s Office said 63-year-old Jay Prauner of Norfolk was driving an SUV north on Highway 81 when the vehicle left the road and rolled. According to a news release, first responders found Prauner outside of the vehicle on the side of the road. The SUV came to rest in a field east the road.

Norfolk Rescue transported Prauner to a local hospital in critical condition. A medical helicopter then flew him to the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.

Prauner is the managing editor of the Norfolk Daily News.

The accident is still under investigation. Madison Sheriff's Office was assisted by Norfolk Fire and Rescue, and Nebraska State Patrol.
