Bridgeport brings home both boys and girls SPVA Tournament titles for second straight season
The Bridgeport Bulldogs had a successful SPVA Tournament capped with both basketball teams winning their respective championships in back-to-back games.
Six days after the SPVA tournament kicked off with the Bridgeport girls winning their first game and the boys losing theirs, both teams played for and earned the tournament championships at North Platte Community College Saturday night.
The boys went first, playing the team they had lost to when they opened the tournament Monday, the Kimball Longhorns. The Bulldogs held the Longhorns to only two points, earned off of foul shots, through the first four minutes of the game. Kimball staged a come back and even took the lead at one point, largely because of the three point shooting ability. By halftime, Bridgeport led by three, and after a close third quarter, they pulled away in the fourth. The Bulldogs won 58-48 to win their second consecutive SPVA Tournament crown.
The Bridgeport girls, the top seed in the tournament, had an easier time against Chase County, pulling out to an early lead and never looking back. They won their fifth consecutive SPVA championship 62-36 over the Longhorns.
