Marcella was born June 12, 1933 in Peetz, CO to Leo and Angela Fehringer. She graduated from Peetz High School. On August 22, 1953, she married Walter Schumpeter, the two were married 50 years before his passing in 2004. The couple worked hard on their dryland wheat farm, raising cattle, hogs, and chickens, selling eggs and cream to support their growing family. They both were faithful, productive members of the Peetz Community. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Sacred Heart Altar & Rosary Society.
Marcella’s work ethic of being a farmer’s wife, and raising 11 children, 53 grandchildren and 93 great grandchildren was apparent in the appearance of her hands. She gardened, made canned goods and jams, and rolled her famous cinnamon rolls and herb pull-aparts for many. However, her famous beef jerky was a favorite to all. She took such joy and pride in sewing yards and yards of fabric, making dolls clothes, baby blankets and patching hundreds and hundreds of pairs of jeans. Marcella loved preparing chocolate milk slushies and tea parties for her grandkids.
Marcella cherished spending time with her family and friends. Some of her greatest pastimes were fixing puzzles, playing games and cards, and attending local bingo nights. She also loved family time during holiday gatherings and was a loyal Peetz Bulldog fan. She was one the greatest bargain shoppers, as she loved thrifting, and scoping out the best deals.
After raising her family, Marcella went to work for the Peetz School District, feeding the mouths of many students. She was a kind person. Marcella cared for elderly and disabled friends and family members. She devoted her time comforting others with her generous spirit.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Walter of 50 years; sons: Bobby (2 years old) and Lyle (47 years old), son-in-law, Wally Beardsley; grandsons: Jacob Jarnagin, Jeremiah Swartz; great grandson: Archer Lebsock and Brenan Swartz; sisters: Coletta Roelle and Barb Altes; brothers: Arnold, Alvin, and Gerald Fehringer.
Marcella is survived by her children: Angie (Paul) Swartz of Liberty Hill, TX, Gene Schumpeter of Sidney, Judy Beardsley of Sterling, daughter-in-law Karen (Marty) Benson of Sterling, Cheryl (Dave) Lebsock of Sterling, Gary (Kristy) Schumpeter of Peetz, Audrey (Brian) Rosenbrock of Brush, Bonnie (Jay) Jarnagin of Eaton, Glen (Staci) Schumpeter of Eaton, Ron (Shelly) Schumpeter of Windsor; (53) grandchildren; (93) great grandchildren, (6) great-great grandchildren. She was greatly loved and will be missed by so many.
