The Kimball Longhorns boys basketball season played what might have become their their final game of the season Thursday night. They lost 65-64 to Perkins County in their sub-district championship game, but will advance to the district finals as a sub-district runner-up.

The longhorns led most of the first quarter taking critical early turnovers from the first seed Plainsmen, but fouls also started to add up in the first quarter. By the second quarter, three different longhorns had gotten into foul trouble and the plainsmen shooting game had come to life. With all the starters but Braxton Miller on the bench at one point, the plainsmen pulled away late in the second quarter. They led by twelve going into the half.

Perkins County maintained their lead and even extended it to as much as seventeen points for a time in the third quarter. Than turnovers struck the plainsmen again and the longhorns led a comeback to within one point at the buzzer.

Both Behrend brothers fouled out of the game in the final seconds after Greg Bingham fouled out midway through the fourth quarter. Kyler Lusche scored twenty-five points in the game with Ryker Behrend putting up twelve and Braxton Miller scoring five.

Kimball advances as a 14th seed to play 3rd seeded Cross County in Stromburg, Nebraska on Saturday at 4:00pm.

That game will be carried live on 104.3 KIMB, 1043kimb.com and the free News Channel Nebraska app.
