SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. — A collision between a semi-truck hauling cattle and a car at the intersection of Highway 71 and West 42nd Street in Scottsbluff Sunday afternoon resulted in the semi overturning and the loss of eight cows.

According to the Scottsbluff Police Department, the crash occurred around 3:14 p.m. when a westbound 2013 Ford Fusion, driven by 31-year-old Joshua Leever of Scottsbluff, failed to yield to the southbound semi-truck and cattle trailer. The impact caused the semi to roll onto its passenger side.

Leever was cited for failure to yield the right of way. The semi-truck driver was transported to Regional West Medical Center with what authorities described as minor injuries.

The intersection was closed for several hours as first responders investigated and worked to clear the wreckage.

Scottsbluff Police were assisted by the Scottsbluff Fire Department, Scotts Bluff County Sheriff’s Office, Nebraska State Patrol, Regional West Ambulance Service and the City of Scottsbluff Street Department.
