SCOTTSBLUFF -- Reginald S. Smith, 30, of Torrington, Wyo., entered a plea of No-Contest to charges of Felon/Prohibited Person in Possession of a Firearm, a Class II Felony, and Possession of a Controlled Substance (cocaine), a Class IV Felony.

The plea was entered at Scotts Bluff District Court on March 19, 2025.

A pre-sentence investigation with substance abuse evaluation was ordered and the Court set sentencing for 11 a.m. May 14, 2025. Bond is continued.

Smith was arrested Aug. 1, 2024, on charges of Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Use of a Firearm to Commit a Felony, and Obstruction of Government Operations.

At about 10:36 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 1, 2024, Scotts Bluff County Sheriff's deputies working security at the Scotts Bluff County Fair recognized Smith entering the beer garden area. Deputies had investigating an assault case in May 2024 involving threats with a weapon with Smith as a suspect. A warrant was issued in June 2024.

Deputies contacted Smith and asked for identification to confirm his identity. Upon confirmation, they told Smith he was under arrest. He immediately broke away and began running. Two unarmed Fair security guards assisted in slowing his flight, and a deputy used a taser. Smith fell and was taken into custody. Deputies searched Smith, finding a Glock handgun, and packets of field-tested cocaine.

According to court documents, bond was set at $100,000.
