SIDNEY -- The Cheyenne County Commissioners Monday approved seeking reimbursement of overtime related to WING Task Force investigations.

WING is the Western Nebraska Intelligence and Narcotics Group Drug Task Force and is comprised of several Panhandle Agencies that pool resources to combat illegal narcotic trafficking.

Cheyenne County Sheriff Adam Frerichs said WING applied for a grant that helps with overtime costs.

"Every couple of years our WING Drug Task Force applies for State and Federal grants for funding of overtime of their narcotics investigators. We just sat down and applied for a federal grant which was not approved, obviously with the new administration and everything going on. So we were allowed to apply for the State grant, which we have done," Frerichs said.

He said a memorandum of understanding is required between all of the participating counties and the WING Task Force.

"This is basically the same memorandum agreement we signed a couple of years ago. We did the same thing applying for grants," Frerichs said.

He said the agreement was reviewed by County Attorney Amber Horn. Her only concern, he said, is what percentage of overtime will be reimbursed. The amount won't be known until the grant is awarded, according to Frerichs.

An estimated 12 counties are involved in the WING Task Force.
