Storms sweep through Cheyenne County with 60 MPH winds

SIDNEY, Neb. — May 14, 2025 — The National Weather Service in Cheyenne has issued multiple Severe Thunderstorm Warnings for Cheyenne County as strong storms moved across the area Wednesday evening.
At 5:54 p.m., a severe thunderstorm was located near Sidney and was moving east at 35 miles per hour. The storm is capable of producing wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour, with potential damage to roofs, siding, and trees.
Communities directly in the path include Sidney, Colton, Sunol, and Lodgepole, with the storm expected to reach Sidney and Colton around 6:00 p.m., and Sunol by 6:10 p.m.
In a separate warning, another storm was tracked at 5:56 p.m. about 9 miles northeast of Potter, moving northeast at 25 miles per hour. The hail threat with that storm is decreasing, with hail likely no larger than one-half inch in diameter.
Both warnings advise residents to seek shelter in a sturdy structure and move to an interior room on the lowest floor.
