DENVER, Colo. — May 18, 2025 — The National Weather Service in Denver has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for northeastern Logan County, Colorado, in effect until 4:45 p.m. MDT.

At 4:01 p.m., a severe storm was located over Proctor, about 20 miles northeast of Sterling, and was moving north at 25 miles per hour. The storm is capable of producing wind gusts up to 70 miles per hour and hail up to the size of ping pong balls.

Forecasters warned the storm could cause significant damage. Hail may result in broken windows and vehicle damage, while the high winds pose a risk to trees, roofs, siding, and mobile homes.

Communities expected to be impacted include Proctor, Crook, and Twin Buttes.

The National Weather Service also noted that tornadoes can rapidly form in these conditions. A Tornado Watch remains in effect for northeastern Colorado through 8 p.m. MDT.

Residents are strongly advised to take immediate shelter in a sturdy building, preferably in an interior room on the lowest floor, and remain away from windows until the storm passes.
