Tornado Warning Issued for Cheyenne and Morrill Counties in Nebraska Panhandle

CHEYENNE, Neb. — May 18, 2025 — The National Weather Service in Cheyenne issued a tornado warning late Sunday afternoon for northwestern Cheyenne County and southwestern Morrill County in the Nebraska Panhandle. The warning remains in effect until 5:15 p.m. MDT.
At 4:49 p.m., radar detected strong rotation within a line of severe thunderstorms extending from 12 miles south of Redington to near Gurley. The storms were moving northeast at 35 miles per hour and were capable of producing tornadoes along with quarter-size hail.
Communities in the immediate path of the storm include Dalton, which was expected to be affected around 4:55 p.m.
The National Weather Service warned that flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter, and that damage to mobile homes, roofs, vehicles, and trees is likely. Residents are urged to take cover immediately in a basement or interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building and avoid all windows.
This tornado warning follows multiple earlier warnings across the region. A Tornado Watch remains in effect until 8:00 p.m. MDT for the Nebraska Panhandle.
