Authorities await toxicology results in Mattea Scheuerman death investigation

SIDNEY, Neb. — Authorities in Sidney continue to investigate the death of 24-year-old Mattea Scheuerman, whose body was discovered in early June in a drainage ditch near the BNSF railroad tracks.
The Sidney Police Department and Cheyenne County Sheriff's Office said the investigation remains active, with authorities still processing evidence, tracking down leads and awaiting toxicology results. The toxicology tests are done in Greeley, Colo. and results could take up to 30-60 days to complete.
Scheuerman’s body was found around 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, near 7th Avenue and Maple Street. Authorities confirmed the discovery following a report to Cheyenne County Communications of a body floating in water.
Scheuerman, a 2019 Sidney High School graduate, was identified the following day. An autopsy was scheduled for Thursday, though no official cause of death has been released. The Sidney Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the scene.
Investigators are asking anyone who may have seen or spoken with Scheuerman between Sunday night and Monday night to contact law enforcement if they haven’t already. Tips can be directed to the Sidney Police Department at (308) 254-5515 or the Cheyenne County Sheriff's Office at (308) 254-2922.
