Aurora woman facing multiple charges after theft of Sterling vehicle

STERLING, Colo. -- An Aurora, Colo., woman is facing several charges after stealing a car in Sterling and driving through several fenced yards.
At 1:45 a.m. June 28, Sterling Police officers discovered debris on the roadway in the 1300 block of Platte Street.
Following the debris trail, officers found a still running, unoccupied vehicle that had crashed into the Sterling No. 1 irrigation ditch north of Walmart. The vehicle sustained severe damage, had deployed airbags and blood on the interior.
The subsequent investigation revealed that the vehicle had been driven westbound on Platte, where it left the roadway and drove through the fenced back yards of several homes in the mobile home park located at 315 Hays Ave. Multiple electrical transformer boxes were also severely damaged, causing several homes to lose power.
Through the investigation, officers contacted the registered owner of the crashed vehicle, who confirmed the car to be stolen from his residence in Sterling.
At 4:30 a.m., Logan County Sheriff deputies contacted a female matching the suspect’s description near the 21000 block of Highway 6. Sterling Police officers responded and contacted the female, ultimately arresting her. The suspect, 22-year-old Savanah Jones of Aurora, CO., was taken into custody on the following charges:
• C.R.S. 18-4-409(3) Second Degree Motor Vehicle Theft Class 3 Felony
• C.R.S. 42-4-1604 Duty upon striking unattended vehicle or other property
• Class 2 Traffic Misdemeanor
• C.R.S. 42-4-1606(1) Failed to Notify Police of Accident
• Class 2 Traffic Misdemeanor
• C.R.S. 42-4-1909(2) Operated an Uninsured Motor Vehicle on Public Road
• Class 1 Traffic Misdemeanor
• C.R.S. 42-4-1401(1) Reckless Driving
• Class 2 Traffic Misdemeanor
• C.R.S. 42-2-101(1) Drove Vehicle Without Valid Drivers License
• Class 2 Traffic Misdemeanor
