Real estate payments soon to include online option

CHEYENNE COUNTY -- The Cheyenne County Treasurer's Office wants to expand their digital service to the public.
Cheyenne County Treasurer Shelley Bowlin wants to add online payment as an option for property owners.
"We are wanting to go online with real estate taxes. We've had a lot of requests, especially from people out of town. Instead of using the mail service, they'd like to be able to sit in their house, go online and pay their taxes," Bowlin said.
She said the online pay method will only be an option; property taxes can still be paid at the office.
Clients would pay the cost of the service, Bowlin said.
"Just like if we were to do it in our office or Nebraska Online, you pay the cost. The county does not pay any credit card charges. It's 2.35 percent for credit cards, and $1.50 for e-checks," she said.
Commissioners approve Spectrum franchise agreement
The commissioners also approved a franchise agreement with Spectrum Communications.
The Franchise Agreement Request was first presented in the July 21 meeting. The commissioners tabled the request for County Attorney Amber Horn to review the agreement after changes were made. Commissioners were concerned about who would be liable for the poles, and what would happen if Spectrum abandons the above-ground lines.
"I reviewed the updated franchise agreement from Spectrum. They included the language about the abandonment that we discussed; mainly that we an require them to remove the property or if we elect to remove it we can have them pay for it, or transfer the ownership to us. I reviewed the entirety of the agreement just to make sure there were no other changes they made that we weren't aware of," Horn said.
The commissioners also approved a Special Designated Liquor License for PNCC Motor Cross Race and Concert on August 31, and updating Deuel County's membership on the Cheyenne County Emergency Communications Board from an ex-officio member to a voting member.
