Northbound I-25 extended closure in effect

LOVELAND, Colo. --  At about 12:27 p.m. today, the Colorado State Patrol responded to a four-vehicle crash involving a box truck, a 2018 Lexus GX, a 2022 Kia Telluride, and a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado hauling a trailer.

The four-vehicle crash was a secondary crash; a secondary crash is a collision that happens because of an earlier, primary crash or incident. The original incident was a medical emergency involving one vehicle that pulled to the side of the road and received emergency medical response.

Two adult occupants and a minor occupant in the Lexus were transported to a local area hospital. One minor occupant in the Lexus was pronounced dead on scene. There were no reports of injury from the Kia and the pickup truck. The driver of the box truck is still being assessed for injuries.

Northbound Interstate 25 at milepost 259 (Crossroads Boulevard) will be closed for an extended period. It is unknown when the roadway will reopen. Motorists will be detoured off I-25 onto Crossroads Boulevard.

The Colorado State Patrol Vehicular Crimes Unit is leading the investigation; the cause has not been determined at this time.
