SIDNEY, Neb. - Firefighters battled a structure fire Wednesday night at Dinklage Feed Yards west of Sidney that damaged a feeder mixer and an adjacent building, sending two firefighters to the hospital with injuries.

The fire was reported at 8:17 p.m. at Dinklage Feed Yards Inc., located at 10152 Road 20 in Cheyenne County. According to Sidney Volunteer Fire Department Chief Matt Butts, the fire involved the feeder mixer used for cattle operations and a small building that housed the equipment.

Sidney Volunteer Fire Department responded with 19 firefighters and received mutual aid from Potter with 13 firefighters and Peetz with four. Crews worked in wind gusts in the area reached more than 60 mph.

Two firefighters were injured during the response and were transported for medical evaluation. Chief Butts said both injuries were serious but not life-threatening, and both firefighters have since been released from the hospital.

Firefighters remained on scene for several hours and returned to the station around 2 a.m. Damage estimates were not immediately available, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation by the fire marshal.

Sidney Regional EMS and the Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Office also assisted at the scene. Fire crews and Dinklage employees are continuing to monitor the site over the next several days to ensure no additional flare-ups occur.
