North Bend Central's offensive output leads to second-half rally over Lakeview
NORTH BEND - What started off as a slow and sluggish performance from the North Bend Central offense turned into an exciting scoring showdown that led to a 51-46 comeback win over Columbus Lakeview on Thursday night.
Columbus Lakeview and North Bend Central weren't breaking any scoring records in the first quarter of action, but the Vikings were doing enough to distance themselves from the Tigers in the first half.
North Bend Central wasn't capitalizing on the Lakeview turnovers, while the Vikings continued to collect rebound after rebound that led to plenty of points in the paint. Eventually, Lakeview held a 15-point lead over North Bend Central in the first half.
The Tigers got a few late shots at the end of the second quarter to cut the lead to just 7 at halftime.
In the second half, the North Bend Central offense looked like a well-oiled machine, knocking down three's, finding second chance points and capitalizing off turnovers.
In an instant, the Tigers took a 37-32 lead into the fourth quarter.
The Vikings stayed in the fight and even had a chance to tie or win the game with under 20 seconds left in the game - that is, until a technical foul for a push was whistled right after a Lakeview timeout with just 6 ticks left.
The technical took possession of the ball away from Lakeview and gave North Bend Central two free throws, plus the basketball back while leading 48-46.
The free throw's and extra possession allowed the Tigers to hit three of four shots from the charity stripe and hang on for the 51-46 victory.
Koda Baehr and Cash Hanis were a huge factor in the NBC comeback, with each of them scoring 14 points in the win.
Grayson Vogt led the way for Columbus Lakeview, scoring 13 points.
