NORFOLK, NEB - After an extensive search that began in August 2025, Norfolk Public Schools has narrowed its list of superintendent candidates to 10. The Norfolk Public Schools Board of Education has selected three candidates to be interviewed for the Superintendent position.
Following a closed session, the board announced it would interview Dr. Andrew Havelka, Superintendent at Freeman Public Schools; Darren Tobey, Superintendent at Broken Bow Public Schools; and Erik Wilson, Associate Superintendent at Norfolk Public Schools.
Board President Brenda Carhart outlined the high expectations for the role. "We’re looking for someone with fresh ideas," Carhart stated. "New trades or skills that they can give us to improve our education and improve our kids so that we set them up for success when they do leave Norfolk Public Schools, setting them up for success."
The candidate interviews are scheduled for Tuesday, January 20, at 9 a.m., with the new superintendent expected to begin in early July. An official announcement is anticipated on Wednesday, January 21.
