FORT MORGAN, Colo. — Firefighters have contained a vegetation fire that prompted evacuations Saturday morning near Interstate 76 west of Fort Morgan.

Reports indicate the fire near the I-76 exit was brought under control by the Fort Morgan Fire Department. Crews remained on scene Saturday conducting mop-up operations to extinguish hot spots and prevent flare-ups.

The fire broke out amid a Red Flag Warning for northeast Colorado, with strong winds and extremely low humidity creating dangerous fire conditions. Earlier reports indicated heavy smoke in the area and a large emergency response, prompting evacuation orders for nearby residents as a precaution.

Law enforcement officials said evacuation orders were lifted once the fire was contained. No injuries or structural damage were reported.

Residents were reminded to remain cautious as dry fuels and gusty winds persist across the region.
