SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. — The Nebraska State Patrol Special Investigations Team is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred Friday evening following a pursuit involving the Scotts Bluff County Sheriff's Office and the Mitchell Police Department.

According to the Nebraska State Patrol, the incident happened around 8 p.m. MT near South 5 Road and South E Road in rural Sioux County. At the conclusion of the pursuit, a Scotts Bluff County deputy and a Mitchell police officer fired their weapons, striking the driver of the vehicle.

The driver was transported by ambulance to Regional West Medical Center in critical condition and was later flown medical helicopter to a hospital in Denver for additional treatment.

The Sioux County Attorney has requested that the Nebraska State Patrol investigate the incident. The investigation is in its early stages and remains ongoing.

Authorities said no law enforcement officers were injured.
