Authorities use spike strip to end high speed pursuit in Nebraska Panhandle

SCOTTSBLUFF - A Colorado man who was arrested after a high speed chase through the Nebraska Panhandle is due in Scotts Bluff District Court on Friday.
Anthony Smith, 39, was pulled over on Highway 26 at approximately 10 p.m. on March 10 for not having license plates on his 2013 Black Kia Optima. Shortly after being pulled over, Smith is accused of fleeing the scene east at 130 miles per hour into Morrill County.
According to authorities, Smith was driving recklessly, including driving on the shoulder, crossing the center line, traveling in the left lane, and running a stop sign at the intersection of Highway 382 and Link 62A.
A spike strip was used to paralyze the vehicle.
Authorities discovered fentanyl, marijuana, heroin and multiple knives with blades in excess of three-and-a-half inches in length during a search on Smith's vehicle.
Smith faces three counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance and felony charges of Possession of a Deadly Weapon by a Prohibited Person and Flight to Avoid Arrest.
