STERLING, Colo. — The Logan County Fair awarded multiple 4-H prizes to kids of all ages during the goat and sheep show on Thursday.

18-year-old Sarah Maker brought five goats with her and won Grand Champion with one of her market goats.

“My favorite part about it would have to be showing and teaching the younger kids,” Maker said. “I’ve always had a passion for goats. I love goats.”

Maker has been competing in 4-H since she was eight years old. This is her 11th time showing, and her last time showing at the Logan County Fair.

“It’s been emotional. I’ve been sad and nervous,” Maker said.

Maker enjoys the Logan County Fair.

“I love it. It’s been super fun,” Maker said. “It’s big. I like the community, so much support.”

Maker is majoring in Veterinary Tech at Eastern Wyoming College in Torrington.

“I’m actually going to be on their show team,” Maker said. “I got a full-ride scholarship to be on their show team.”

Maker said she gets attached to her goats and doesn’t like seeing them go when it’s time to sell.

“Sundays are very hard, very emotional, but then I realize I’ll get goats in the spring,” Maker said.

11-year-old Graison Bell does not have the same emotional attachment to his animals.

Bell said his favorite part of 4-H is showing and selling his goats.

“They kind of get on my nerves because sometimes they don’t want to walk,” Bell said.

This is Bell’s fourth time showing goats at the Logan County Fair.

Bell brought two goats to show at the fair and knows exactly what to do when he steps into the arena.

“You grab their collar and lift them up to you and hold them still and it shows the muscles on their back so the judge can feel around for them,” Bell said.
