Gregory Dean Vath
Gregory was born August 2nd, 1964 to Richard M. and Sonja G (Heine) Vath in Benkleman Nebraska.
Greg was the oldest of three sons born to this union.
Greg grew up loving the outdoors. His early years were spent in Denver and the mountains west of Denver. He was his dad’s best friend and hunting and fishing buddy until he lost his dad to an auto accident when Greg was just 9 years old.
Greg continued his love of the outdoors and as a teenager, his family moved to Dalton, NE. Greg got involved in sports. He excelled in Football winning both conference and state honors. His athletic ability earned him a scholarship to college.
Following college, Greg enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he specialized in Aircraft Maintenance. He quickly rose to the rank of Seargeant and became an instructor before being medically Retired.
Greg went on to several new careers that included Ranching, Bar ownership, and liquor sales with Greg going into full retirement in 2018.
In 1991 Greg married Romy Van Eck. They had two children , Richard Lee Vath and Hannah Gail Adriana Vath. Greg raised his children in the Dalton community where they both graduated with honors from Leyton High School.
Greg was a true friend to most people who knew him. He was always willing to help with any friend or family member who needed it. Greg lived a life that wasn’t defined by possessions or bank balance. He was a regular volunteer at the Community Shepherds of Dalton. His life (as most people’s) didn’t always provide Greg a smooth path. But throughout, Greg was always positive and hopeful for the future. Even through his most recent illness he expressed how he wanted to fight and keep living life.
Gregory is survived by his wife Therese Vath of Dalton, his children Richard (Emma) Vath of Valparaiso Ne and Hannah Vath of Warrensburg Missouri, his Step-Father Leland Vallier (although he was much more than a step-father. He was “POP” for 48 years) of Sidney, Brothers Scott (and wife Shelly) Vath of Sidney, and Carter (and wife De) Vath. Aunt Carol Brown of Dalton, Unce Lyle (and aunt Kathy) Heine of Bridgeport. And additional aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews too numerous to list.
Gregory was preceded in death by his father Richard M Vath, and his mother Sonja G Vath Vallier.
A Memorial Service for Gregory will be held at the Dalton Community Shepherds on Friday, April 4th, 2025, at 10:30 AM. with a social time to follow.
