Gering man sentenced to 2 years probation for multiple charges

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. -- A former Sidney man was sentenced to 24 months of probation this month by a Scotts Bluff County District Court Judge after pleading no contest to amended misdemeanor charges of second-degree assault on an officer, terroristic threats, resisting arrest, and use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony last winter.
Scottsbluff Police accused 21-year-old Trey Arellano, of Gering, of threatening to "kill a cop" when he was contacted by an off-duty police officer while in a parking lot behind the Scottsbluff Police Station in the early morning hours on Feb. 18.
Arellano was accused of concealing what was later described as "an edged weapon" in his hand, according to a press release at the time of his arrest. The officers believed Arellano was armed and demanded he show his hands. Arellano refused and an altercation with officers ensued. Police eventually deployed an electronic control device and Arellano was placed in handcuffs.
Two officers were treated for minor injuries and immediately returned to duty.
Arellano was also credited with time served in jail.
