Snow continues to pile on western Nebraska Wednesday
KIMBALL, Neb. -- So how much snow has the blizzard produced? Well, it depends on which part of the Panhandle you're observing.
In Alliance, there were reports of just over a foot of snow by midday Wednesday.
The Box Butte County seat is located along Highway 385, which remains impassable from the South Dakota border to Sidney.
Both Sidney and Kimball were reporting just a little less than a foot of snow by midday Wednesday.
The two southern Panhandle communities remain affected by the Interstate 80 closure, which remains in effect from North Platte to the Nebraska-Wyoming border.
Back up north, Gering had nearly a foot of snow by midnight Tuesday night.
While no new snowfall totals have been officially reported in the Scotts Bluff County community on Wednesday, the town remains in a blizzard warning through tomorrow, with more snow likely.
The biggest number of all? Well, that currently belongs to the Chadron area. Just north of the Dawes County seat, there were reports of 24 inches before lunchtime on Wednesday.
With similar snowfall just past the border in South Dakota, highways stretching north and south throughout the Panhandle remain either closed or impassable.
Reports indicate that a re-opening of the highways might be around the corner, though further snow could impact that possibility.
