SIDNEY -- Adams Industries is moving ahead on an expansion project with the Cheyenne County Commissioners blessing.

Kim Matthews, Business Development Manager at Adams Industries, met with the commissioners regarding a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG).

Adams Industries plans to expand its footprint to include at least 30 new full-time jobs in the next three years. The plans include construction of additional rail lines, potentially doubling the company's footprint; updating the facility's 1940's sewer and water infrastructure; a new maintenance shop with rail access, build to suit properties for core tenants and purchase additional rail equipment to facilitate continued growth.

Matthews said the grant is for $1 million, but the company expects to invest much more.

"Our investment is substantially higher," she said.

The commissioners agreed with the importance of the project.

"I think it is a great deal, and I'd be glad to support it," said commissioner Randy Miller.

According to a fact sheet provided by Matthews, "this is not a request for material expense to be incurred by Cheyenne County. Rather, it's allowing us to reinvest into our community and accomplish projects that will benefit us all that wouldn't be financially feasible otherwise."

The CDBG option with the County was first discussed in August 2022. The project must positively impact low- and moderate-income residents, and provide an area benefit such as jobs or housing.
