SIDNEY -- The rain kept falling but the cars kept rolling in the 2023 Cruise Night in Sidney.
The June 2 event offered a night for automobile affectionados, hobbyists and anyone who wanted to take part to cruise "Main Street" like in the old days.
The night included burgers and hot dogs on the east side of Illinois Street, and popcorn, nachos and all of the theater food near the middle and pizza and the works on Hickory Street.
The night was noted for Google Maps documenting a traffic jam in Sidney, the slow flow of traffic from near Fort Sidney Road to approximately 18th Street. Drawings were conducted through the night for favorite songs, a specific year of penny and other unique searches resulting in free pizza and other prizes.
The Fox Theatre showed the movie "Rebel Without A Cause."
Car enthusiast John Phillips said he has been to every Cruise Night held in Sidney. This year, his cars were help secure because of the weather. Besides the weather, the night was a success, Phillips said.
"I'm very much a car guy. I didn't bring any cars out today," Phillips said Friday night. "It's great. It's nice to see everyone out in spite of the weather."
The sidewalks were crowded in places as spectators tried to enjoy the night while avoiding the spring rain.
The night even included a combine making a lap or two.
