GERING - A police standoff with a man who barricaded himself in a Nebraska Panhandle home nearly passed 29-hours before he was apprehended by authorities Wednesday night.

The Scotts Bluff County Sheriff's office said the standoff began after Bradley Garcia, 37, of Scottsbluff, fled when a deputy tried to pull him over for a traffic violation Tuesday afternoon in Gering.

Garcia is accused of shooting at the deputy's vehicle during a brief chase, then crashed into a residential garage at the 2300 block of 19th Street. Garcia barricaded himself inside the home around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. He took a woman and two girls hostage, but eventually freed the children. The female hostage was freed early Wednesday afternoon.

Local law enforcement says the man fired at officers with multiple weapons during the standoff. No injuries to officers or citizens were reported.

Several flash bangs and gunshots, followed by commands from law enforcement, were heard at approximately 7:45 p.m., according to the Star-Herald. Shortly after, Garcia was taken into custody.

Garcia was booked into Scotts Bluff County Jail after midnight Thursday.

Gering Public Schools were closed on Wednesday, due to the incident, but were set to resume classes on Thursday.

The FBI and the Nebraska State Patrol helped local law enforcement.
