Sheriff: Hostage situation in Gering began with vehicle pursuit of suspect
Wednesday morning update: According to News Channel Nebraska's partners at KNEP-TV in Scottsbluff, there's been no resolution met between the suspect and law enforcement. The standoff in Gering began around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.
A group of State Patrol troopers gathered for a meeting at 6:20 a.m. No action had taken place at that time.
All classes at Gering Public Schools were cancelled Wednesday. School was set to resume Thursday.

GERING - Authorities were involved in a standoff with a man who barricaded himself inside a home on near Kings Road and 19th Street in Gering, following a pursuit Tuesday afternoon.
Scotts Bluff County Sheriff Mark Overman says the suspect, who was armed, was believed to have one hostage. At one point, children were inside the residence, but Overman confirmed the children were released safely.
Law enforcement were trying to negotiate with the suspect to have him come out safely, according to Overman.
Shots were fired and a pursuit of the suspect by Scotts Bluff County Sheriff's deputies began on Five Rocks Road before the suspect abandoned his vehicle and entered the home. Authorities responded to the scene at approximately 3:30 p.m. after reports of shots being fired in the home.
Gering High School and Northfield Elementary were placed in lockdown at 3:38 p.m. after more shorts were reported in the neighborhood near the two schools. An alert was sent to parents.
Students at the high school were eventually released to their families with the assistance of law enforcements at approximately 5:04 p.m. Students at other schools in the district were released earlier in the day.
Gering school cancelled all practices, games and activities Tuesday due to the police activity in the area.
