SIDNEY - A unique icy contest to win free groceries is back this winter.

Big Boy Morning Show Host Hunter Arterburn announced from atop the "highest point in Nebraska not named Panorama Point" the Sidney radio station will be giving away a $200 gift card to Sonny's Super Foods to the person who correctly guesses when the towering pile of snow on the corner of 10th Ave. and Toledo St. will be melted down to the bare parking lot.

Everyone is welcome to join the contest by submitting the date they think "Sonny's Super Snow Mountain" will disappear on The Big Boy's Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages. The deadline to enter is Sunday. Limit one entry per person.

If there are multiple guesses with the correct date, a random drawing will be held to win the $200 Sonny's Super Foods gift card.

Susan Sutton, of Sidney, won it in 2023, the first year the radio station ever did the snow mountain contest. She was one of 13 people who correctly guess when the pile of snow would disappear. Guesses ranged from St. Patrick's Day to the Fourth of July.

The snow pile started building altitude during a major winter storm on Dec. 14, 2022. There were worries the snow mountain would disappear in late March, but an early spring snow storm allowed Wieser Construction to rebuild the snow pile on March 25, 2023. Thanks to temperatures in the 60s and 70s over the Easter weekend, "Mt. Sonny" officially eroded away on Monday, April 10, 2023.

This year, "Sonny's Super Snow Mountain" gained elevation thanks to nearly four inches of snow earlier this week and bitter cold temperatures.
