HASTINGS - A record-setting running back from Lodgepole will be inducted into the eight-man football hall of fame this summer.

The Nebraska Eight Man Football Coaches Association announced Josh Frerichs as one of ten players and two coaches who will be inducted in their 2024 class at the Tom Osborne Family Sports Complex in Hastings on June 15.

Frerichs rushed for 2,282 yards and led Lodgepole to their final appearance in the Nebraska School Activities Association state playoffs in 2003. The Panthers notched wins over Banner County and Wallace before falling to Mullen in the postseason. Lodgepole consolidated with Chappell the next year to form Creek Valley.

Frerichs still holds the eight-man record for touchdowns and points in a single game. He scored 10 touchdowns and 70 points vs. Minatare in his junior season in 2002.

Other players being inducted with Frerichs include Steven Bazata (Howells) Chris Carpenter (Falls City Sacred Heart), Brian Hahn (Hampton), Brandon Johnson (Rushville), Jerry Leiss (Indianola), Matt McGinn (Anselmo-Merna), Travis Mlady (Bloomfield), Larry Tomlinson (O’Neill St. Mary’s) and Jeff Veerhusen (Adams).

Jon Dahl (Mead) and Curt Johnson (Lawrence) are two coaches who will be inducted during a ceremony at halftime of the 47th Annual Sertoma Eight-Man All-Star Game at Hastings College at 6 p.m. CDT.
