UPDATE: The Kimball Swimming Pool will offer a prorated price for season passes due to the delay in opening.

The City Council approved the price reduction in the June 5 meeting. The price will be reduced for however many days the opening date has been pushed back, which will come out to be between two and three weeks.

City Administrator Annette Brower said she can't give an exact date of opening, but is hoping it will open by June 15.

The first coat of paint is completed, and the workers have two more coats to go with five more days of cure time. Following that, they will need a few days to fill the pool and finish cleaning and revitalizing inside the pool house.

Brower received community feedback asking why the repairs and repainting were not done until now. Her response is that it is based on the weather because it is an outdoor pool.

She said the special paint for the pool requires a straight seven days to cure afterward, and to do so the temperature has to be 52 degrees or above overnight and 72 degrees or above during the day. On top of that, it requires no rain for that whole period of time.

Council Member Greg Pike said, "Cure time is important. If we decided to fill the pool before it's ready, we take on all the risk of the pool being damaged, and it's not covered by insurance to drain and redo it."

KIMBALL -- The opening of the Kimball Swimming Pool has been delayed until mid-June.

The pool usually opens around Memorial Day, but the city officials needed to make repairs to the pool prior to opening this summer.

City Administrator Annette Brower said in the May 28 City Council Meeting that they have sandblasted, patched and repaired, and installed the heaters and plumbing. The only thing left is to paint the pool, which they plan to start on Thursday.

The setback is due to the recent storms, high winds and low overnight temperatures.

They have not been able to paint because the overnight temperatures have been below 50 degrees, which is not optimal for the paint to cure.

Painting the pool will take a minimum of three days and multiple coats.

“We have to give the paint seven days to cure, otherwise we take the risk of filling it too soon and the paint peels off,” Brower said.

The city authorities plan to start filling the pool June 10 and open it to the public on June 12.
