SCOTTSBLUFF -- At about 5:07 p.m. Wednesday, August 21, Scottsbluff Rural Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a grass fire approaching a structure on Sugar Factory Road and County Road D.

Mutual Aid was immediately requested by Incident Command from Gering and Minatare Fire, but were canceled shortly after.

Upon arrival of Incident Command, the fire was contained due to the response of landowners. Hot spots were extinguished to ensure there was no chance of rekindle.
 
Minatare and Gering firefighters were thanked for being ready to respond. Scottsbluff Rural Fire also thanked the landowners and farmers for assisting with the fire. 
 
The fire was started by lightning.
 
All units returned to the station around 18:15.
