DENVER (AP) — Drew Romo drove in a career-high three runs and Jordan Beck had a go-ahead RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift the Colorado Rockies to a 7-5 victory against the Baltimore Orioles Saturday night.

Charlie Blackmon added two RBIs for the Rockies in the fourth inning with his fourth triple of the season.

Brendan Rodgers and Nolan Jones each had a pair of hits for Colorado, with Rodgers recording his fifth RBI in the past four games. Jones scored what was ultimately the game-winning run off of Beck’s single.

In just his eighth career game, Romo had a two-run bloop double in the second inning and padded the Rockies’ newfound lead in the eighth when his groundout to short brought home Beck from third base.

Jeff Criswell (1-0) earned his first career win after pitching a scoreless eighth inning while Craig Kimbrel (7-5) took the loss for Baltimore. Tyler Kinley picked up his eighth save of the season after striking out Adley Rutschman swinging with runners on first and third.

Rockies starter Ryan Feltner had a no decision, marking his 22nd consecutive start without a win. Feltner allowed five runs on six hits while striking out six in 4 2/3 innings.

Anthony Santander hit his 39th home run of the season for the Orioles with a two-run, 437-foot shot to right field in the fourth inning. The 29-year-old switch-hitter is third among all MLB players in homers this season.

Eloy Jiménez also homered for Baltimore while Ryan O’Hearn drove in two runs with an RBI single in the fifth inning.

Orioles starter Dean Kremer left the game in the fourth inning after being struck on his right forearm by a Beck line drive that came off his bat at an estimated 103.1 mph and left a large lump just below Kremer’s wrist within minutes of making contact. Kremer was diagnosed with a right forearm contusion and X-rays were negative.

Baltimore third baseman Ramón Urías also left the game early, exiting in the seventh after manning the bag on a feet-first slide from Rockies shortstop Ezequiel Tovar. Urías fell to the turf, walked gingerly back to the dugout with a team trainer and was replaced by Emmanuel Rivera.

Arch Manning throws 1st career TD pass in Longhorns' rout of Colorado State

Arch Manning threw his first career touchdown pass and ran for his first score in mop-up duty in No. 4 Texas' 52-0 victory over Colorado State on Saturday in the season opener.

The five-star recruit with the NFL family pedigree might be the highest- profile backup quarterback in the country as he waits behind starter Quinn Ewers.

And while Manning, still a freshman after playing briefly last season, might not be a threat to unseat Ewers, every step on the field is met with robust cheers from Longhorns fans.

Manning, the son of Cooper Manning, is the grandson of former NFL quarterback Archie Manning, and the nephew of Super Bowl-winning QBs Peyton and Eli Manning.

Texas led 38-0 in the third quarter when Manning entered the game. His first play was a 40-yard completion to Johntay Cook II.

His second pass was a 5-yard TD strike to Silas Bolden. On the play, Manning scrambled to avoid a pass rush, then looked ready to bolt for the end zone before shoveling the pass to Bolden.

His 1-yard touchdown run with 10 minutes left was Texas' final score.

Manning's readiness to play significant minutes this season could be key in Texas' first season in the Southeastern Conference. Ewers has missed multiple games each of the previous two seasons with injuries.

“The ability to have the vision to find the guy for the touchdown, that's the natural instincts that he has,” Texas coach Steve Sarkisian said about Manning.

“I fight with Arch a lot about him being a little too robotic at times because he wants to be right. I want him to play the game because he has so many cool instincts. We saw that on display today.”

Cade Harris' two short TD runs power Air Force to 21-6 victory over Merrimack in opener

AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. (AP) — Cade Harris had two short touchdown runs in the first half and Air Force had no problem dispatching FCS-member Merrimack with a 21-6 victory in a season opener for both teams on Saturday.

Harris scored on a 2-yard run in the first quarter and a 4-yard run with 16 seconds left before halftime to stake Air Force to a 14-0 lead. Merrimack went 0 for 5 on third-down conversions and managed just three first downs before intermission.

The Falcons final score came midway through the fourth quarter after Merrimack turned the ball over deep in its own territory.

Luke Fischer recovered a fumble by Warriors receiver Jermaine Corbett and returned it five yards, giving Air Force the ball on the 14-yard line. The Falcons rushed six straight times with Aiden Calvert scoring from a yard out with 8:31 left to play.

Merrimack avoided a shutout on the final play of the game when backup quarterback Ayden Pereira connected with Jalen McDonald for an 11-yard touchdown.

Air Force had only 20 more yards of offense than the Warriors — 237-217.

The Falcons' last shutout came in a 28-0 victory over New Mexico in November of 2020.
