KIMBALL -- The City Park has reopened following the installation of the new equipment, but not without hitting a snag due to colder weather.

The city needed to temporarily bring back the pea gravel for the City Park instead of installing the new rubber tiles like originally planned.

Once the installers began the process of putting the new equipment in, the weather temperatures started to drop. The temperature would have needed to stay above 42 degrees at all times for the tiles to set properly, said City Administrator Annette Brower in a City Council meeting last month. The process to set the tiles would have taken over three weeks, so by the time the installation had started, it was going to be too cold.

The installers will return in the spring to replace the gravel with the tiles.

“It will be a lot of work in the spring to dig it back out, but I think it’s worth it,” Brower said.

“We don’t want it walled off and closed all fall and winter.”
