Cheyenne County Attorney Paul Schaub resigns
Schaub announces acceptance of post in Weld County, Colorado
SIDNEY -- Cheyenne County Attorney Paul Schaub submitted his resignation to the Cheyenne County Commissioners Monday.
Schaub announced he interviewed for a position with Colorado's 19th Judicial District, and accepted an offer.
"The interview went well. I received a job offer. It's a very good offer, and I've talked to friends and family about that. I talked to my wife about it, and ultimately I made the decision to accept that offer. For those of you who don't know where that is, it actually encompasses Weld County. Weld County is massive-sized county running from north of Thornton which is north of Denver, all way up to the Wyoming border," he said this morning.
He thanked the people he's worked for and with in his time with the Cheyenne County Attorney's Office. Schaub began his service with the Cheyenne County Attorney’s Office in 1995.
"I have a great staff; worked with officials, county employees, and very grateful to -- I've worked with dedicated law enforcement over the years, the sheriff's office, police department, state patrol. These people are on the line to protect your lives and they're serious about doing it," he said.
He said he will be primarily handling felony and homicide cases. His last day as Cheyenne County Attorney is Jan. 5, 2025. The commissioners met in executive session to discuss an interim appointment with David Wilson as interim County Attorney until Deputy County Attorney Amber Horn returns from maternity leave January 17. Schaub said the county has 45 days to appoint an interim county attorney.
"I want to thank you for your years of service. You've done fantastic, and I've got to know you very well, and thank you for everything you've done for the county. I really appreciate it," Commissioner Randy Miller said.
The action took place in the December 16 county commissioners meeting. The county will be posting ads to fill the County Attorney position.
The contract with Travis Rodak through the County Attorney's office was tabled until the next meeting.
The county commissioner's agenda included "review and consider Paul Schaub's resignation," and "Review and consider approval of proposed Deputy County Attorney agreements with David Wilson and Travis Rodak."
The Cheyenne County Attorney is an elected position with a four-year term.
