VALENTINE, Neb. – The Cherry County Board of Commissioners has voted to offer the position of noxious weed superintendent to Patrick Hooper, a Merriman resident. Hooper was one of four candidates interviewed for the role, which became vacant following the recent death of former superintendent Dave Leonard.

During his interview, Hooper highlighted his prior experience in the field and emphasized the importance of building strong relationships with landowners. He also acknowledged the significant work ahead in controlling noxious weeds across the county.

“The willingness to work with landowners will take some time. We have a lot of these all-natural guys, and I’m very concerned about how they’ll take care of noxious weeds,” Hooper said.
