National Tourism Week begins in Nebraska Panhandle

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. (KNEP) - Gering Mayor Tony Kaufman, Scottsbluff Mayor Jeanne McKerrigan, Terrytown Mayor Chris Perales and Scotts Bluff County Commissioner Ken Meyer sign their names at the Wildcat Hills State Recreational in recognition of the Power of Travel. Also, the Nebraska State Park system turns 100 today.

“We are anticipating more normal crowds this summer,” said Kaufman. “I think our tourism partners are definitely poised and ready to go to meet those needs. We’re excited for the upcoming summer season got a lot going on in our communities and look forward to building more bridges and working with our partners to make this happen.”

Scottsbluff Mayor Jeanna McKerrigan says tourism increases revenue for businesses and hotels will likely see an uptick in occupancy. People appear to be more comfortable with traveling.

“I feel like people are becoming more relaxed since the vaccinations have occurred,” said McKerrigan. “They’re getting out and now they’ll have the ability to be outdoors more so.”
