SIDNEY, NE — A crash Monday evening in Sidney has left two people in search of new cars.
According to authorities, the crash in downtown Sidney occurred just after 5 p.m. Monday.
One car, driven by a 16-year-old was heading west on Illinois St. Another, driven by Cheyenne Meade was on 11th Ave. at a stop sign. Police say Meade pulled out into the intersection, not seeing the westbound car on Illinois St., causing the collision.
After the hit, the westbound car then veered and hit a light pole on the corner of 11th and Illinois.
The crash closed Illinois St. from 10th to 13th Avenues for about an hour while authorities investigated and cleaned up the scene.
While police determined the minor behind the wheel of the westbound car played no role in causing the crash, they did suspect they were impaired at the time of the accident, according to the accident report.
The report indicates police had them take a drug test, which indicated they had marijuana in her system at the time of the crash. The crash report does not indicate whether or not they were cited.
A passenger in the 16-year-old's car had a suspected minor injury, according to the police report, but no one was taken to the hospital.
Both cars are considered totaled. An additional $1,500 in damage was caused to the light pole.
The Sidney Police Department, Cheyenne County Sheriff's Office, Sidney Fire Department, Regional West Ambulance Service and Nebraska State Patrol all responded to the scene.
