SIDNEY – The Sidney Lady Raiders and Red Raiders each improved to 10-1 on the season with Western Conference victories over the Gering Bulldogs Friday night at the Cabela’s Athletic Facility. The Lady Raiders survived 47-35 while the Red Raiders cruised to an 80-64 win.

The girl’s game was a typical Sidney-Gering conference battle. Sidney got off to a sluggish start which allowed the 6-3 Bulldogs to take a 5-4 lead over halfway through the first quarter. But that was the last lead Gering would have as the Lady Raiders closed the period on a 10-2 run to lead by seven after one quarter.

Sidney opened the second quarter with a 9-0 run to take their largest lead of the game of 16 points at 23-7. Gering closed the gap slightly but Sidney still headed to the locker room at halftime leading 27-14.

The third period was a disaster for Sidney. The Lady Raiders scored only 7 points on 3 of 12 shooting while Gering shot over 58% from the floor, including a pair of three-pointers, to close to within one, 34-33 after three quarters.

The Lady Raider defense rebounded in the fourth, holding Gering to just 2 points, to pull away for the win. Brynna Ross’ three-pointer was Sidney’s only field goal of the final period, however the Lady Raiders made 10 of their 17 free throws to put the game away.

The Bulldogs battled back to cut Sidney’s advantage to just two points, at 11-9 late in the first period, but that was as close as Gering would get as the Red Raiders finished the period with a 13-9 lead.

Sidney came out firing in the second period, going 5 of 7 from the floor, including 4 three-pointers expanded their lead to 29-17. However, Gering rallied with an 8-0 run to close the half on to keep the Bulldogs in the game 29-25 at halftime.

The third quarter was all Sidney. The Red Raiders forced 10 Gering turnovers while pouring in 26 points to take a 55-36 lead into the final stanza. The Red Raiders stretched their advantage to 62-39 early in the fourth and cruised home for the win.
