The Chadron State College men’s wrestling team prevailed in six of its seven contested matches on Friday evening, at home in the Chicoine Center, as the Eagles won 46-3 over New Mexico Highlands University to improve to 4-2 overall, and maintain a perfect 3-0 record in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference standings.

The Cowboys’ returning regional champion from 2020, Jonathon Trujillo, was a scratch at 149 pounds.

CSC true freshman Quade Smith pinned his 125-pound opponent to begin the dual. NMHU forfeited the next two weight classes to put the Eagles up 18-0.

Second-year wrestlers Brody Lamb, at 149, and Dean Neff, at 157, were both winners of simple decisions, and then the 165-pound class went to the Eagles by forfeit.

Another true freshman, Darwin Hull, pinned his opponent, Allen Michel, in 1:27. Michel placed sixth at the 2019 NCAA regional.

The Cowboys won their first and only match at 184, with their veteran Lance Kilgore winning 4-2 to score a simple decision.

CSC’s Eli Hinojosa took a major at 197, and No. 10 Mason Watt finished the night with a pin, to punctuate the dual win.

CSC’s toughest road duals are next weekend, when they visit Western Colorado and Colorado Mesa on January 20 and 21.
