Western Trails Conference Tournament brackets released

SCOTTSBLUFF, NE — The Bridgeport and Bayard girls basketball teams now know their paths if they wish to capture their second tournament championships of the season. 

The 2022 Western Trails Conference Tournament brackets for were released Tuesday. 

In the girls division, Bridgeport (14-1) claimed the top seed and receives a bye into the semifinal round. The Lady Bulldogs will face the winner of the No. 4 seed Mitchell (8-10) and No. 5 seed Hemingford (10-7).

The other first round matchups in the girls division will feature the No. 2 seed Bayard (13-3) taking on the No. 7 seed Morrill (6-9) while the No. 3 seed Gordon-Rushville (13-4) faces the No. 6 Kimball (6-8). 

All first round matchups will take place Thurs, Feb. 3 with the higher seeds hosting. Semifinals and the championship games will be played at Western Nebraska Community College (WNCC) in Scottsbluff Friday and Saturday.

Last week, Bridgeport claimed their second consecutive SPVA tournament championship. Bayard won the Minuteman Activities Conference (MAC) tournament title last week.

In the boys division, Gordon-Rushville (14-2) got the bye and top seed. The Mustangs will face the winner of the No. 4 seed Mitchell (5-13) and No. 5 seed Hemingford (8-8).

The other first round matchups in the boys tournament feature the No. 2 seed Bayard (11-5) taking on No. 7 seed Kimball (1-13). No. 3 seed Bridgeport (9-7) faces No. 6 seed Morrill (8-5).

Semifinals begin at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 4, at WNCC with the two girls semifinals followed by the boys. 

The championship games will be played Saturday, Feb. 5, at 5:30 and 7:15 p.m. at WNCC.
