Law enforcement arrest man in Scottsbluff mall parking lot

Police arrested a Scottsbluff man in a mall parking lot on allegations of assaulting an intimate partner by strangulation and suffocation.

SCOTTSBLUFF - Police arrested a Scottsbluff man in a mall parking lot on allegations of assaulting an intimate partner by strangulation and suffocation.

Michael Mapes was arrested in the parking lot of the Uptown Scottsbluff Mall.

According to court documents, Mapes knowingly, or intentionally, impeded the normal breathing or circulation of the blood by applying pressure on the throat or neck area to another person on Sept. 23.

In addition, law enforcement found a controlled substance, which was suspected to be cocaine in his possession.

Mapes faces third degree domestic assault charges, along with possession of a controlled substance. His court date is pending.
