AINSWORTH - The Sidney Red Raider wrestlers completed a busy weekend at the Ainsworth Invitational on Saturday. The Red Raiders wrestled Valentine in a dual on Friday night before traveling on over to Ainsworth for the invitational tournament on Saturday.

In the dual at Valentine, the Badgers jumped out to an early lead with three straight pins at 160, 170, and 182 lbs. Dietrich Lecher got Sidney on the board with a pin over Logan Mayhew at 195 lbs. to cut the Valentine lead to 18-6.

A pair of Badger pins at 220 and 285 lbs. increased Valentine’s advantage to 30-6. Quinn Arellano pinned Valentine’s Ethan Borer at 106 and Chance Houser’s 4-0 decision over William Sprenger moved Sidney closer at 30-15.

Valentine picked up a pin at 120 before both teams forfeited at 126. Sidney made things a little more interesting when Austin Munier pinned Gavin Sandoz at 132 while Kole Houser got a pin over Cody Miller at 138 to cut the Badger lead to 36-27.

A Sidney loss by pin at 145 lbs. wrapped up the dual for the Badgers. Patrick McCartney picked a 13-9 decision over Conner Fowler to round out the Sidney scoring. Valentine won the dual 42-30.

On Saturday in Ainsworth, Sidney wrestled to a 4th place finish, with 7 individuals earning medals. Burke/Gregory and Valentine tied for first place with 190.5 points. Central City was third with 141 points while Sidney scored 121 points.

Sidney had a pair of runner-u performances on the day. Chance Houser placed 2nd at 113 while Austin Munier was runner-up at 126.
