LINCOLN - The University of Nebraska is hosting the Big 10 Wrestling Tournament this Saturday and Sunday, March 5th and 6th, at Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln. Because this weekend is typically when the Nebraska School Activities Association holds the Girls State Basketball Championships in PBA, the NSAA was forced to combine the girls and boys tournaments into a week-long marathon. Both the girls and boys state basketball tournaments will now be held in Lincoln beginning Monday, March 7th and run through Saturday, March 12th.

The 24-1 Bridgeport Lady Bulldogs are the #3-seed in a very competitive C-2 bracket. The eight teams in this year’s girls C-2 state tournament bracket average 22.5 wins per team against just 3 losses and includes last year’s champion and runner-up. Bridgeport will begin their quest for a state championship at 6:45 p.m. MST on Tuesday at Lincoln Southeast High School. The Bulldogs open the tournament against the number 6-seed Sutton Fillies (22-4).

Bridgeport will create problems for any team in Lincoln because of the one-two punch of the Loomis-Goltl sisters. Olivia, a 5’10” sophomore and Ruthie, a 6’3” junior, are each averaging 19.8 points per game for the Bulldogs. But the pair are not the only scoring threats opponents will face. 5’6” sophomore Brooklyn Mohrman is also averaging in double-figures at 12.6 points per game. Sutton will rely on Alivia Huxoll, a 6’0” junior averaging 10.2 points and 6.6 rebounds per game, while senior Kate Griess adds 9.9 points per game for the Fillies.

The winner of the Bridgeport-Sutton game will advance to Thursday’s 2:15 p.m. MST semifinal at the Devaney Sports Center against the winner of #2 seed Guardian Angels Central Catholic (25-1) and #7 seed, Oakland-Craig (18-7). The championship game will be Saturday at 3:00 p.m. MST at Pinnacle Bank Arena.
