SIDNEY – The wheels didn’t just fall off the wagon for the Sidney American Legion Seniors Tuesday night in their season opener. The entire wagon broke into a million pieces. Sidney trailed Gering Platte Valley Companies 3-0 through four innings at Legion Field. In the top of fifth Gering sent 12 batters to the plate, scoring eight runs on just two hits to win the game 11-0 in five innings.

Gering pitcher Dalton Wiese pitched five shutout innings for the win. The southpaw gave up just two hits while striking out seven and walking only three. Carter Resig was two for three from the plate with one RBI for Gering.

Micah Schneider took the loss for Sidney, giving up three runs on three hits in 3.2 innings of work. Schneider struck out eight and walked three. Blaine Russell, Ty Stetner, and Zech Roggash pitched the final 1.1 innings, giving up eight runs on two hits, walking five while striking out only two.

Gering B-C Steel won the Juniors game over Sidney 14-0 in five innings.

Sidney is back on the diamond on Wednesday when they travel to Bridgeport to meet the Bombers. Junior game is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. followed by the Senior game at 7:00 p.m. Listen to the Senior game on 1340 AM and 95.7 FM, Cheyenne County Country.
