Sidney American Legion Seniors Fall in Extra Innings

GORDON - The Gordon Security First Regulators scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the 10th inning to send Sidney's American Legion Seniors home with an 8-7 loss. The loss drops Sidney to 1-10 on the season while the Regulators improve to 4-4.
Sidney got on the board early, scoring two runs on one hit in the top of the first, only to see Gordon put up five runs on four hits in the bottom of the frame to take a 5-2 lead after one.
Sidney chipped away at the Regulator lead, plating a pair of runs in the second and one more in the third to tie the game at 5-5. Sidney regained the lead in the fourth when Zech Roggasch scored on a Patrick McCartney sacrifice fly.
With Blaine Russell on the mound, Sidney held Gordon scoreless for five straight innings while adding another run in the sixth to lead 7-5 heading to the bottom of the seventh. But a leadoff single by Tyler Johnson combined with a pair of Sidney errors and a passed ball allowed Gordon to tie the game at 7-7 and force extra innings.
A leadoff single by Jace Freeseman and a pair of passed balls by Sidney allowed Gordon to plate the winning run in the bottom tenth.
Tyler Johnson and Junebug Walking pitched five innings each for Gordon, surrendering seven runs on seven hits while striking out 15 Sidney batters. Blaine Russell threw eight innings for Sidney giving up seven runs on seven hits while striking out five and walking just two. Sawyer Dickman gave u one run on one hit while striking out three Gordon batters in 1.2 innings of work.
Sidney returns to action next Tuesday when the travel to Ogallala for a Junior/Senior doubleheader. The Junior game is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. followed by the Senior game at 7:00 p.m.
