SIDNEY, Neb. -- The Sidney City Council on Tuesday approved the M.C. Shaft & Associates company out of Scottsbluff to design the Sky Manor water line.

The project will add a second line to the city water system, city officials said. The second line will feature as a backup in case of an emergency, so the water and sewer systems can still function.

The water line will be 600 feet. Three proposals from different companies were reviewed by the water staff.

Water/Sewer Superintendent Rob Kuhns recommended moving forward with the bid.

M.C. Shaft & Associates' bid cost $6,776 out of the American Recovery Plan Act fund.

The council approved Kuhn’s suggestion and voted to move forward with the engineering of the water line project with M.C. Shaft.

The council also approved a mower trade-in for Hillside Golf Course.

Golf Operations Director Lance Juelfs recommended a trade-in of the current Hillside Golf Course mower for a new 13-foot pull-behind mower.

Juelfs said this is the best option for the golf course because the mower will be sold for a lower price as a demo, although the demo has only been used on Hillside Golf Course.

With the trade-in of the old mower, Juelfs said it will cost $22,000 as opposed to a brand-new mower priced at $42,000.

“This is a mower we feel will last for over 20 years,” Juelfs said. “We will not need any new pieces of equipment going into next year.”

City Manager David Scott said there are several different companies going door to door with sales pitches regarding roofing repairs.

Scott said one company came to his own home and did not have a legal door-to-door selling permit within the City of Sidney.

“If you think that someone is pressuring you to do something and you feel unsure about it,” Scott said. “You can call the city office and ask any questions about sales and permits.”

Scott said the city office has a list of everyone licensed to do roofing in Sidney and the office can be reached at (308) 254-5300.

The City Council moved the renewal of a local sales tax and proposal to the next meeting on Tuesday, July 12th due to not doing a public notice.
