Female kayaker drowns in North Platte River

A female body was found Monday morning.

TORRINGTON, Wyo. -- A 48-year-old female's body was found in the North Platte River Monday morning.

Around 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 17th a report of a missing Kayaker, Mariah Johns, of Torrington, was taken to Torrington Central Dispatch in Goshen County. The death was accidental in nature.

Goshen County Sheriff’s Office reported that the caller said the female had entered the North Platte River to retrieve a boat and she had not been seen again.

Members of the Goshen County Sheriff’s Office, Torrington Fire Department, and Goshen County Search and Rescue were on scene looking for the female until around 10 p.m. A plan was formed to return to the area the next morning on July 18th to continue the search, members of Goshen County Search and Rescue remained on scene all night.

The body was found around 8:50 a.m. 

The Goshen County Sheriff’s Office, Torrington Fire Dept., Goshen County Search and Rescue, Torrington EMS, Goshen County Coroner’s Office, and Goshen Irrigation District all reported to the scene at North Platte River.
