Huskers Set Record Scores on Day Two Against Nanooks
Fairbanks, Alaska- The No. 6 Nebraska Rifle team set record aggregate and air rifle scores against the No. 4 Alaska Fairbanks Nanooks on Sunday, but fell by a score of 4,740-4,726.
The Huskers' score of 4,726 beat the program record of 4,717 set against Air Force on Oct. 22, while the air rifle record bested the program record of 2,379 set on Oct. 29 against Ohio State.
Freshmen Emma Rhode and Tori Watts both broke into the record books with scores of 598 in air rifle. That topped the previous mark of 597, which was accomplished five previous times, most recently by Cecelia Ossi in the 2021-22 season and Rhode and Watts this season. Watts finished second in the event while Rhode, who also set a personal best with a 587 in the small board, placed third. The tiebreaker was determined by the number of 10-point shots Freshman Camilla Johannessen was the third Husker freshmen to set a personal best in the air rifle on Sunday, as she shot a 595 on the event to finish fifth.
"The (aggregate) score shows what this team has the potential to shoot at every match," said Head Coach Mindy Miles. "Tori shot a personal best in smallbore with a 587, Emma and Tori shot a school best 598 in air (rifle) and Camilla shot a personal best of 595 in air. Cecelia also shot a personal best in smallbore. I'm glad the team shot two high scores this weekend. It's a long trip to Alaska Fairbanks, and they made a great trip of it."
Watts placed fifth overall for the Huskers with an aggregate score of 1,185.
In the smallbore, Junior All-American Cecelia Ossi was third with a score of 592, which was her career best in the event. Watts shot a personal best of 587 and placed seventh.
